What is an Alkyd?

Alkyds are synthetic polymers derived from chemically altered vegetable oils or fatty acids. Their unique oil-based structure enables them to thoroughly wet and penetrate sound rust and loose particles, providing exceptional adhesion on surfaces where alternative resins struggle to bond. Alkyds will mix easily with many solvents and can be modified to mix with water.
